PSHE (personal, social, health and economic) education is an ‘important and necessary part of all pupil’s education.’ (Department for Education)
At Swan Lane First School we aim to provide a PSHE education which ‘gives pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.’ (PSHE Association)
We follow the Cambridgeshire Primary Personal Development Programme. PSHE is taught as a discrete subject once a week by the class teachers. However, it is also covered through many other areas of school life. A copy of the Programme of Study for Reception – Year 5 can be found below. The units of study are separated into the following areas:
- Myself and Relationships
- Health and Safer Lifestyles
- Economic Wellbeing
Here are some photographs of how PSHE education runs through school life at Swan Lane First School.
