PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) is an ‘important and necessary part of all pupil’s education.’ (Department for Education)
At Swan Lane First School we aim to provide a PSHE education which ‘gives pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.’ (PSHE Association)
We use Jigsaw PSHE (the mindful approach to PSHE). Jigsaw PSHE connects the pieces of Personal, Social and Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and SMSC into a lesson a week programme. PSHE is taught as a discrete subject, once a week for a minimum of half an hour. However, it is also covered through many other areas subject areas, aspects of school life as well as taking primary focus in our themed weeks that take place every half term.
Our curriculum plan and our policy for PSHE and RSE is still under development and review, and as such, we welcome your comments, queries and questions. Thank you for your support.
