On Tuesday 7th July, eight year five children were taken to Prince Henry’s High School to take part in a morning of science activities. The children were first introduced to the laboratory and the importance of safety. After that they were placed into groups with children from other schools in the local cluster.
Mr Billington then introduced the experiment they would be working with. The children needed to measure the energy content of a range of foods. They did this by burning the foods under a test tube of water and calculating the increase in temperature. During the morning they used many scientific skills, including: prediction; experimental procedure; data handling; evaluation techniques and safety. The children thoroughly enjoyed the morning and learnt a great deal.
